ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION GRANT AWARDED TO THE GREEN PROJECT
Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Healthy Communities Grant to Aid in Expansion of Vital Program
The Green Project will receive $10,000 from Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Healthy Communities Grant program to help fund its new environmental education program, It’s Easy Being Green. This is an expansion of its existing environmental education program, which consists of “Green Projectivities,” a weekly workshop series, and “Green Screen,” a free monthly film screening, both of which are open to the public and typically held at the Green Project warehouse in the St. Roch neighborhood. The expansion will take environmental education beyond the Green Project warehouse and into the city, offering reuse- and recycling-focused seminars at local schools and community associations of all kinds.
“The Green Project is proud to receive this grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful as we build our Environmental Education program to serve the New Orleans Community,” says Phyllis Jordan, Executive Director of the Green Project. “Because our city has recently formed its local chapter (Keep New Orleans Beautiful), the Green Project became eligible for these grants at the state level. This grant gives us means and encouragement to bring environmental programming to all areas of the city and surrounding areas to encourage everyone to reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose, repair, and generally conserve our earth’s resources.”
Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s chapter of Keep America Beautiful, aims to promote personal, corporate, and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana. The Healthy Communities Grant program, which awards grants of up to $10,000 each year to non-profits, is designed to encourage community action in the specific areas of education, enforcement, and participation in local anti-litter activities. Funding is granted to programs and projects with the specific purpose of reducing litter and waste in Louisiana.
